George Washington wrote letters during the American Revolution appealing to the Continental Congress (and private individuals such as Robert Morris, perhaps Chaim Solomon and others?) for funds for the war effort. I would like to have the text of those letters. |

The text of a number of letters referring to the need for money or funds is found in "George Washington: A Collection" compiled and edited by W.B. Allen Liberty Fund (1988)http://oll.libertyfund.org/Texts/LFBooks/Washington0268/Collection/0026_eBk.pdf. A fulltext search for relevant terms can be conducted using Adobe Acrobat on the document. A searchable archive of George Washington's letters is available at: "The Writings of George Washington from the Original Manuscript Sources 1745-1799" Edited by John C. Fitzpatrick (1931-44) Several letters refer to the Army's scant "funds." An extensive collection of digitized images of Washington's letters can be found at the Library of Congress at http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/gwhtml/gwhome.html. The papers can be searched by keyword, and then the corresponding image can be viewed. I hope one or more of these sources meet your needs. Sincerely, Wonko |
