Not sure about the scientific name, but here are some very
non-scientific possibilities:

VISUAL MONTES

UNVITAL MOSES

LAMINOUS VETS

AMULET VISONS

MISVALUE SNOT

OVUM SALTINES

SATIN VOLUMES

ENVIOUS MALTS

UNVEILS ATOMS

If you have any clue at all about the sort of animal in question, I
might be able to track it down.

Yes , I managed to get that far myself. Scientific Nomenclature
doesn't necessarily use genuine Latin words though. They're mostly
made up.

Well, that took some time, but I did get it. I won't spoil the fun
until an answer is demanded by all and sundry.

I'll tell you what - I'm about to go to bed, and if when I get up I
find no objection here, I'll post the answer. I wouldn't want to
upset anyone who feels that they are on the verge of a discovery.
