i am not sure that is the name of the song. the words i have
mentioned are in the song. more words i believe are "and you don't
even try to let yourself believe what you're feeling". also part of
the chorus was " i'll be your friend you don't have to be mine. but
i'll try and i'll try and try it again to get you to open your mind."

Apryl,

You don't have to answer this commentator. Did s/he give you anything
useful? It is not much of help to tell you that *if* you knew the name
of the song and the person who does it, they'll find it for you. After
all, you're asking for the name of the song. Let me paraphrase it: if
you don't have anything useful to say, it is much better to shut your
keyboard and not spam the world with your totally useless piece of
disgusting design.

What is useful is for you to tell the Researchers (you can identify
them by the blue link on their name):
- Do you remember if it is a female voice, a male voice, more than one
voice, if you remember a choir - either on the whole song or in parts
of it?
- Do you remember the style (folk? country? rock? etc.)
- Can you associate hearing the song with some events in your life -
and if you do - could it tell you more about the year? Or is it
something continuously on the radio back in the 1970s, or even also
today sometimes?

oh... i have never used this before so i didnt know that. you are so funny -
"if you don't have anything useful to say, it is much better to shut your
keyboard and not spam the world with your totally useless piece of
disgusting design."

i imagine the person is just trying to help. i don't know the answers
to any of the other questions you asked except that it was probably
early 70's when i first heard it. i have no idea if it is an old song
or not. the melody was just haunting tho and i loved it. i guess it
would be more of a folk song than rock or country. i hope i can find
it. thanks so very much for all of your help!
