I have a laptop computer that requires 12 volts and 2.5 amps to power.
 The battery takes care of that.  I need to know how much power I
would need in a solar panel to be able to effectively recharge that
battery.

You need to create the same amount of power you are using.
Power = Volts x Amps
P=12 x 2.5 = 30W
