The Panasonic UJ-825-B drive will not recognize any blank media. It will read other media just fine. Drive in question: http://panasonic.co.jp/mke/en/device/storage/dmd/dmd_825.html http://www.panasonic.com/industrial/computer/storage/multi/images/pdf/UJ-825.pdf Dvd Info Pro tells me the dive isn't ready when I insert blank media. I've tried CDR, DVD+R, DVD-RAM. No more information that that. No error code, no nothing. The drive is in use with a standard IDE connector, master, with a notebook to ide adaptor such as this: http://www.logicsupply.com/product_info.php/cPath/47/products_id/108 This is the extent of my information. My google efforts have yeilded little in diagnostic help. It fails under windows 98 and windows XP. |

The reason is it failing is because these drives are known to have a problem with the laser. You see there are different lasers for reading and writing. When you insert a blank disk it first reads that it is blank, and then doers a cheksum in sector one with the write head. Since your laser write head does not work it says device is not ready. My reccomendation is to replace the drive. The drive will now only read media. |
