Dear whiterogue-ga;

Thank you for allowing me to answer your interesting question. In most
instances the answer is "No'.

Typically, pre-employment drug screens are uninterested in issues
related to steroid use just as they wouldn?t necessarily check for
many legal prescription drugs that you might be using without
authorization.

As a rule, many standard pre-employment drug screen test for the
following substances:

Marijuana (cannabis, hash)
Cocaine (crack, benzoylecognine)
Opiates (heroin, opium, morphine)
PCPs (phencyclidine)
Amphetamines (speed, methamphetamines)

Some more advanced tests can look for barbiturates, benzodiazepines,
methadone, propoxyphene and even alcohol. A few companies test for
LSD, MDA, mescaline, or inhalants but none that I know of routinely
test employee candidates for anabolic or other types of steroids.

Here is a fairly standard summary of the focus for some common types
of drug panels commonly used for pre-employment, random screening and
post-accident screening. You will note that none of the list steroids
as a focus substances:

Drug screenings are paid by the potential employer. You need to know
why the employer is required to screen for drugs. Is it required as
part of a government contract?
A good business person typically only follows government mandates when
explicitly required to do so. He would only eat the costs of meeting
the requirement to the minimum degree.
A test for alcohol, coke, marijuana, and meth would be cheaper than a
test for all of these plus steroids. Is your employer mandated to test
for it? Would he pay extra even if he didn't have to?
