Hello Voodo,

Thank you for your question.

Simvastatin, a cholesterol-modifying medicine from Merck & Co., Inc.,
and marketed under the brand name Zocor has the effect of reducing
Triglycerides.

The following excerpts back up my answer.

“The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has officially cleared
Zocor(R) (simvastatin), Merck & Co. Inc.’s cholesterol-lowering drug,
to lower triglyceride levels in addition to its established role of
lowering total and LDL cholesterol in patients with both high
cholesterol and high triglycerides.”
Doctor's Guide Publishing Website (1997)
http://www.pslgroup.com/dg/44316.htm

“In addition to lowering LDL cholesterol by a mean of 47 percent,
Zocor 80 mg (in 189 patients with triglycerides over 200 mg/dL)
lowered triglycerides by a median 36 percent. These results are based
on a 24-week trial comparing the efficacy and safety of Zocor 40 mg in
433 patients and Zocor 80 mg in 664 patients.”

According to the Patient Product Information (PPI) sheet from Merck
Sharp & Dohme:

“ZOCOR significantly reduces LDL (bad cholesterol) and triglycerides;
and raises HDL (good cholesterol).”

“Zocor is a cholesterol-lowering medicine which inhibits the
production of cholesterol by the liver. It also works to lower
triglyceride levels. Triglycerides are blood fats which may be high in
people whose cholesterol is high or who have heart disease.”
