According to reports of the court case, it was to be ridden by Gus
Philpot who was unaware of the switch to the horse Bold Personality.
"Twenty years ago this week, apprentice Gus Philpot was legged aboard
an eight-year-old gelding in an ordinary race at Eagle Farm.
It was, however, no ordinary occasion.
The horse he rode to a narrow victory in the Second Commerce Novice
(1500m) on August 18, 1984, was supposed to be called Fine Cotton.
In fact it was the much better performed open company sprinter Bold
Personality, clumsily disguised and backed around the nation from 33-1
to 7-2."

APPRENTICE jockey Gus Philpot, 19, yesterday said he had not known
that he had ridden the wrong horse at Eagle Farm last year. Philpot
said he heard about a ring-in while waiting in the jockeys' room after
Race 4 on August 18. But he did not know he had ridden the ring-in."
