Here is some old info from 6 months after the war:
Security:
Almost without exception, Iraqis we spoke to listed security ? or the
lack of it ? as their greatest concern.
Health Care:
The impact of U.S.-led sanctions before the war complicate Iraq's
health care situation. Overall though, ABCNEWS and Time news teams
found most Iraqis believe the health system has worsened in postwar
Iraq, but the ingredients are there for improvement.
Education:
Schools appear to be in better condition than they were before the
war, and overall, ABCNEWS and Time teams found the postwar education
situation had improved.
Electricity:
While ABCNEWS and Time news teams found improvements in northern and
southern Iraq, there's continued trouble in Baghdad and central Iraq.
Water Supply:
Poor water quality was the leading cause of childhood disease and
hospitalization in Iraq before the war, and Iraq is still plagued by
poor water quality.
Availability of Jobs:
While unemployment is on the rise, ABCNEWS and Time news teams
discovered that with a new paymaster in town, some Iraqis are earning
twice as much as they did before the war.
Availability of Goods
Postwar Iraq has seen a consumer goods boom, but big obstacles in growth persist.
Certainly things have changed significantly in the last 18 months
since this article was written, and I look forward to seeing a more
indepth and more recent answer from a researcher. |
