Question ID: 502747
hello...i have a 12 pound dog who loves to go in the car with
me...because she is small i worry about having 2 slam on the brakes
and having her be thrown all over the car...i want something that will
keep her in place but will also let her move and is comfortable...i am
kind off looking for a seat cover/harness...but not a huge dog seat
that will take up the whole seat...something small that is able to be
taken out quickly.....i have been looking on the internet but all i
can find is these huge bulky beds...i want this cover or harness to be
small because if somebody wanted 2 sit on the passenger seat they
could and would be able to hold her...i drive a ford expedition so
size isnt really a concern...but its just the fact that we are a big
family and i sometimes need all the seats in the car and tallulah (my
dog) doesnt need a whole seat to herself...i have seen the dog seats
that go in the center console but they are just to small for
her...unless u or something u know has one and finds it bigger than it
is shown in a picture...i am open to suggestions as well as looking
for an actual product...so anything u can find or say would be much
appreciated...thankyou Hannah

Thank you for the question. Luckily, you have a number of options.
First, you can purchase a small doggie car seat that fastents to the
seat belt in your car. If this option is too bulky, you can purchase a
harness that attaches to the seat belt, and to the dog, in order to
keep them secure in the car. Another option is to fasten a small
kennel to the seat using a special harness.

I have outlined these options below with links to the respective
products and provided some additional links that may prove useful.

As a dog lover myself, I know that this can be a trick situation, and
getting your dog to stay still in these restraints can be easier said
than done. However, the safety that it provides both the dog and the
driver are likely worth a few headaches.

Good luck!

Dog Seat Belts and Harnesses:

http://www.discountramps.com/dog_seat_belts.htm
"The "Doggie Catcher" dog seat belt is a pet restraint device designed
to help protect you and your pet while traveling in an automobile.
This dog seat belt is just like a regular seatbelt, only it is for the
protection of your dog, cat or pet who could be seriously injured if
the driver had to suddenly slam on the brakes or if the vehicle was
involved in a car accident. It also protects the occupants of the car
because in an accident without a dog restraint your pet may become a
object that could hit and injure the passengers of the car. The dog
seat belt also prevents your pet from distracting or jumping on the
driver by allowing your pet to only move a specified distance,
designated by you, laterally closer or further from a window, in the
front or rear seat. With the dog seat belts patented plastic shield,
there is never a chance your dog could accidentally unhook the seat
belt by stepping on it. The doggie catcher attaches easily to your
pet's harness. For your pet's safety, Veterinarians recommend this
product to be used with a harness. "
