glenpark-ga,
Thanks for the feedback to my earlier post.
I'm going to provide you instructions for using several online
directories that -- together -- should go a long way towards providing
the type of information you are seeking for contacts in California, or
in other states of interest to you. Resources on Mexico are probably
best left to a separate question, and would probably best be answered
by a researcher that speaks Spanish (I know only un poco, I'm afraid).
The resource I referred to earlier is the very useful business lookup
service at the RedWire page of HispanicBusiness.com:
http://www.hispanicbusiness.com/redwire/
Just click on the "Search Companies" button to get started. You'll
come to a search page with several options for finding companies
(company name, city, state, keywords, etc. You may want to start
simply by selecting California to get an overview of the entire list.
You can always refine your search later by, e.g., selecting an
individual city such as Los Angeles. You can also search on keywords,
but I found this overly restrictive myself, and an approach that did
not produce very satisfying results. As I said, a search for all
companies in California produces a list of well over 1,000 businesses.
You'll notice there is also an option for searching on International
businesses here, but I did not see very many listings for Mexico when
I tried it.
Another valuable resource is the Los Angeles-area business directory
of the Latin Business Association:
http://directory.lbausa.com/
Again, there are a variety of search methods available here, ranging
from a specific company name, to broad-based keyword searches.
The Latin business Association is only one of many Associations and
Chambers of Commerce in California that focus on Latino businesses.
You can find a list of similar organizations throughout California at:
http://www.cahcc.com/Regions.htm
California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce
and throughout the US here:
http://www.hispanicbusiness.com/organizations/
Hispanic Chambers & Professional Organizations
Also at the Hispanic Business site, you might want to take specific
note of this article:
http://www.hispanicbusiness.com/news/newsbyid.asp?id=17945
about:
¡Viva Tu Cine!: New Spanish-language film series coming to Los Angeles
The article lists many of the theaters in the Los Angeles that hosted the films.
Lastly, you asked about Hispanic population figures, so here is a link
to a great resource at the US Census Bureau:
http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/06/0644000.html
Los Angeles
This particular link shows the Hispanic breakout for Los Angeles:
"Persons of Hispanic or Latino origin, percent, 2000 -- 46.5%"
but towards the top of the page, you can select any city of your
choosing to see similar statistics elsewhere in California.
I trust this information fully answers your question. However, please
don't rate this answer until you have everything you need. If you
would like any additional information, just post a Request for
Clarification to let me know how I can assist you further, and I'm at
your service.
All the best,
