Dell OptiPlex GX110, Windows XP Home, HP Apollo p-1250i printer.
Can't install printer driver from Installation CD. "Can't find
setupx.dll" even after I've sprinkled it every place I could think of.
Do you know where they are looking or can you suggest a way I can
proceed stepwise through the CD setup and hopefully discover the
expexted .dll source? It works, but not like it used to. |

syracuseart...
I firmly believe this is doable, but it may require some
back and forth dialog which can be awkward on this forum,
depending on your availability (as well as the researcher's).
Are you pressed for time on this, and how available are
you for an extended dialog (how readily can you respond
to ongoing requests for clarification)?
Printer driver installations can commonly become complicated
by some minor detail in the installation process.
My first question would be, are you installing from the CD
subsequent to opening the Windows Add/Remove Programs
feature (in Control Panel), or are you just running the
CD from Windows Explorer, or is it running automatically
(autorun) upon insertion into the CD drive? Does the
readme.txt file express a preference for one of these
options over the other?
When Setup begins (via autorun, or when you click on setup.exe)
does the program unzip a group of setup files prior to further
dialog or processing, and if so, are you able to locate them
(they're usually somewhere under your default Temp folder)?
Better yet, do you have any leeway (via dialog) in choosing
the location to which the setup files are sent?
Can you locate setupx.dll on your hard drive subsequent to
the first stages of the setup process?
Is the message "Can't find setupx.dll" coming from the CD
setup program or from the Windows Add/Remove Programs dialog?
The answers to these questions should get us rolling...

Hi syracuseart,
The problem is, setupx.dll is found on W9x systems, not Windows XP.
In other words, in your case, your driver is designed for W9x and is
not NT-based (Windows XP/2000). You'll find a pretty good discussion
about it at the following link which will help you to understand the
problem, plus a couple of possible solutions.
Computing.net
"what setupx.dll does is links your third party softwhere in my case a
intelogis passport adapter to your registry and as matt said it is not
usualy found on an nt system like nt4 or 2000 or xp..."

I hope this helps you! If so, let me know and I'll post it as an answer.
Good luck,

The answer from hummer was helpful to the point where I'm back to
almost "normal" but I can't find the right page to acknowledge this.
Will this qualify so he can post it and get paid? Thanks.
