When I try to wear a camisole with a built-in shelf bra, the fabric
never seems thick enough. Outlines of my nipples are clearly visible
to me in the mirror (although my husband claims not). I should
mention that if I'm wearing something as skimpy as a camisole, I'm
probably cold. Two part question...
1) Is this normal?
2) Is there an appropriate way for me to wear a camisole? (I've
thought of these options so far... I could wear it as is and not
worry about it. I could wear a bra underneath and have the straps
showing. If it's a tight fitting single-layer camisole, nipples will
probably still show in the cold despite the bra. I could buy the kind
of camisole with a lot of thick padding, but since I'm A cup that will
look really abnormal. I could try tape or stick-on widgets, but I'm
really sensitive to adhesives.)

Strange but not directly related to my question...

This morning there was a helpful suggestion from a commenter, saying
that I could get bras with see-through straps. Now there are no
comments. I didn't think the suggestion was lewd or otherwise worthy
of being deleted.

And now when I log in, it won't let me add a comment, only clarify my question.

Seems like GA is screwy today. Small tip for a quick explanation of
this phenomenon.

GA editors have removed all comments. One commenter was a spammer, who
I responded to, and the others were too "lewd' I guess.

Oops, forgot. One commenter suggested Victoria's Secrets catalogue.
They have high quality lingerie. Pricey, but worth every dime. Just do
an online search.

Thanks, Steph53, for the explanation. Too bad the editors couldn't
have left the non-lewd comments. Do you happen to recall what the
commenter suggested to buy from the Victoria's Secret catalog? (I get
the catalog but never order anything.) They sell some camisoles that
they claim have good lining for no "show-through," but I am skeptical.

Hi again, physicschick....

I don't really know the specific item, but trust me, Victoria's
Secrets stuff is all quality stuff. If they say the fabric is "no show
thru", believe it.

I bought many items from them and I've never been diappointed. I'm not
a SPAMMER, btw, I just love pretty lingerie and bathing suits.

The best thing I have from them is a "cute" little orange bikini with
a built in bra that makes me look sooo good!! And, FYI, I just turned
56;)

I'm sure you look fabulous in your orange bikini. :) And of course
you're not a spammer... Victoria's Secret's marketing budget is large
enough that they can afford to market by more conventional means!
Maybe I'll try getting a camisole from them. Can't hurt to try.

most camisoles will show nipples unless they are thickly padded. This
is normal unless you have no nipples.
Here are a few suggestions...
Wear a strapless bra; available most anywhere.
Layer cami's. If you are going to wear just the camisole then buy two
of them in coordinating colors.
I have found that the cami's with the built in bras seem to keep a
strapless in place. Plus if you decide to layer with two buy the one
to go on bottom with the built in bra and the top one without it.
