Is an automatically generated TOC? If so, must it remain dynamic after being sorted, that is, continue to reflect document content changes? |

Is an automatically generated TOC? I am required to update it after each change. If so, must it remain dynamic after being sorted, that is, continue to reflect document content changes? Yes, If possible |

Just to clarify - you update the TOC, not word? Ummmm - put it this way, do you type in new TOC entries, or just select the whole TOC and do an "update field"? |

First, appreciate your kind assist and time. whole TOC and do an "update field"? Yes Here is sample of what the TOC currently might look like: Accounts payable Page 1 Sales Page 2 Sales People Page 3 (child of Sales) Marketing Page 4 Cash Flow Page 5 Etc., Etc After the sort I would like it to look like this (Alpha Sort) - with both pages and children having been re-indexed appropriately Accounts payable Page 1 Cash Flow Page 2 Marketing Page 3 Sales Page 4 Sales People Page 5 (child of Sales) Good Luck. Appreciated if you're able to find the solution. Regards, |

WoooW - hang on a minute. It looks like it is not the TOC that you want sorted, but the document. With the example you gave, just sorting the TOC (somehow) would give: Accounts payable Page 1 Cash Flow Page 5 Marketing Page 4 Sales Page 2 Sales People Page 3 (child of Sales) Here's a scenario. Let me know if it sounds like what you are trying to do. You add a new section to a document that has a title (probably with a heading style). You then run a macro that sorts the sections of the document according to the content of the text with the appropriate heading style. Then, it updates the TOC. This would be like a self-ordering document. Is that what you are after? |

What you want is not a TOC, it's an Index. I don't know if Word insists on Indexes being at the end. Owain |
