I would like a detailed set of instructions on how to build an aurora borealis generator as shown here: http://www.jsf.or.jp/sln/aurora_e/step2ha.html#ginga Information that I would like is as follows: A detailed parts list of things that I will need for this project possibly including price and place to purchase the items. A set of instructions on how to assemble the device. Doesn't have to be lengthly, just general pointers of constructing the device. I know someone out there has to know how to do this, and I appreciate the help! | |

The Aurora Bourealis is simply charged particles colliding with gas in the upper atmosphere. The charged particles are forced into a tight region by the Earth's magnetic field. This is demonstrated for you on a daily basis in your home, school, work in the form of a light bulb. The color for the aurora borealis depends on what kind of gas the charged particles are colliding with. Nitrogen produces red photons, while oxygen produces green photons. You can simulate an aurora by taking a strong magnet and holding it up to a neon or ultra-violet light. The magnetic field will restrict the "aurora" and manipulate its shape. |

Kevlar-ga: Thanks for the clarification of theory on the subject, but I already understand the basics of the mechanism. What I need to know is the application <parts list, sources> of it so I can build a nice sturdy machine specifically designed to create the effect just like in the afforementioned website. Mike |
