I wish to purchase a Toshiba Qosimo G15 laptop computer (with a US-English keyboard layout). I am located in Zurich, Switzerland and the local computer vendors here only have models that have european style keyboards. What is the easiest and quickest way to acquire one from this location? |

If the problem is only the keyboard layout, why not buy keyboard stickers that would have English on it? I wouldn't buy an American computer and ship it to Switzerland, because of the different voltage. |

Order just the keyboard from a UK source. If it still types a Z when you hit the Y-key ... I believe (and almost anyone else would know) that it is possible to recode keyboards to allow you to change the keys. If this is so, you don't need another keyboard but can recode the Swiss one and shift the actual keys, but you may need keyboard stickers for the keys under your left little finger (üäö). PLEASE someone, if I am wrong about this, say so! |

The difference is only the labels on the keys. The keyboards are all the same. However, I wouldn't use stickers - they usually don't last long enough. And don't get the keyboard from England - most english keyboards are different than the US keyboards. The cheapest solution would be to order a external keyboard from some US retailer over the Internet. As a alternative you may be able to just order a replacement keyboard for your laptop. All laptops I know have the keyboard easy replacable. This would allow you to buy a laptop in switzerland (no warranty issue) and just swap the keyboard (and swap it back before getting any warranty or repair work done). As a alternative (with the currently cheap $) you might consider to buy the laptop in the US. Don't worry about the voltage. All laptops these days have universal power supplies. But you may need to buy a additional power cable or a adapter for the plug. However, be really careful about warranty and service. You may be stuck to send it to the US for all warranty or repair work. PS: I assume you are into programming and need all the {}[] etc chars without some strange finger acrobatic. Used to have the same problem years ago, but then I solved it by moving from switzerland to the US. |
