You have to get a mod chip and have it installed.

is one solution that does not require a mod chip, or breaking open
your PS2.

There are two solutions you can either get a modchip or get a special
cd. THe best one would be the PS2 DVD REGION X. This store is god:

Does the PS2 DVD Region X play Japanese imported GAMES though? Or is
it just for movies? I would hate to buy it and find out I cant play
imported games on it.

I made the mistake of buying a japanese game, Since I already had a
REGION X. the game did not work with the region x. it only worked for
the dvds. I guess the region x for the game cube is the only one that
works for japanese games.
