If you go to this URL:
http://www.cboe.com/DelayedQuote/QuoteTableDownload.aspx you will see
a form where you can type in a stock symbol, click on the "submit"
button, and get a file downloaded with stock quotations.

My question is: is there a URL that I can enter into my browser and do
this automatically? I do it every day, and I'd like to automate it a
little. For example, I'm thinking there might be a URL that would
look something like this that would do the job:

http://www.cboe.com/DelayedQuote/QuoteTableDownload.aspx?Ticker=MSFT&submit=Download

That one doesn't work, of course, but is there something like that
which will? Or am I condemmed to keep typing the ticker symbol in and
clicking on the button by hand?

From the page: "DOWNLOADING THIS DATA IN ANY OTHER WAY THAN BY
MANUAL TICKER SYMBOL ENTRY IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED."

Yes, I saw that. I am pretty sure that what they are concerned about
is someone depriving them of revenue by automatically downloading data
for lots of stocks, or maybe even possibly reselling such data. They
go on to state that they will block the IP address of anyone who
attempts to do so.

My thinking is that I am already collecting this info manually, every
day, for one stock. All this does is speeds up the process for me, it
doesn't give me any more info than I would have otherwise. I doubt
seriously that they would block my IP address for that, since I would
be getting the same data I am getting currently. In any case, I'd be
willing to take a chance, as I think the odds of them being worried
about something like that are vanishingly small.

Now, if I was going to do it with a bunch of stocks, that would be a
different story. But I suspect that WOULD trigger their IP blocking
threat, and rightfully so.

If my rationale, as explained above, leaves anyone feeling
uncomfortable, then please don't answer the question.

You can automate using autoit. It'll require some legwork to read up
on it, but it's free.

James, that was a GREAT suggestion! I used that tool, and while at
first I was dismayed by the apparent complexity of the language (I'm a
non-programmer), I found they have a great keystroke and mouse
recorder built into their version of the SCITE editor, which really
writes the program for you. Then all it took was to compile it, and a
little fooling with the Windows Task Scheduler, and I'm all set!

Even though you didn't really supply the answer, (I guess I did), you
pointed the way. In addition, I now have a great piece of free
software that I'm sure will come in handy for other Windows projects.
So, for all that, I think you definitely deserve the $5.00. Put
yourself down for it, and thanks!
