Where did the food, "Pot Stickers," originate and how did they come about (any mystical story)? I am cooking some to bring to my asian studies class Monday for "Food Day" and would like to say something somewhat intelligent about my choice other than how my Chinese girlfriend make them for me all the time and I can't get enough of them. Easy research, but I though I would test your service. |

'Pot Stickers' were invented by Confucius who says that Chinese girl who makes them for her boy friend all the time will soon be blessed with a devoted husband and many children, all of whom will become addicted to her Pot Stickers and they will also give her much love in return. |

Potstickers (?? or gu?ti?) are a Northern Chinese style dumpling popular as an appetizer or side order in Japanese cuisine and Chinese cuisine. This dish is often served on a Dim Sum menu, but may be offered independently. The filling for this dish usually contains pork (or chicken), cabbage, scallions, ginger, and sesame seed oil. The mixed filling is sealed into a dumpling wrapper, steamed in a wok, and then fried to crispness on one side in a shallow frying pan. The effect of the one crisp side of the dumpling is where it gets its English name of potsticker as it appears to have been stuck to the pot in which it was cooked. The potsticker is similar to the Japanese Gyoza dumpling. wikipedia knows all. My entymology was going to be that the name was a clever invention by a cook who spent too long on the phone and thought that if she gave her burnt somethings a nmae she could pass them off on the guests as being intentionally that way. |
