Hi,

It all depends on the look that you're going for. The Navy believes
that everything should be straight-laced, because it not only looks
good, but is practical as well, in the event of having to cut the
shoelaces to remove the boot in a hurry.

For a regular runner, i'd start out with straight-lacing the bottom,
so the ends are inside the shoe, but still outside the tongle. then
simply cross-lace them up until you have no more holes left. Making
sure, ofcourse, that instead of going from the outside-in, you go from
the inside-out. (so the ends are coming out of the shoe).

Hope this answers your question.

Yeah, but do you really want to be straight-laced?

I go for cross-laced myself and I am considered an arbiter of fashion.

Anyway as an ex-Army man, I would want to be different than any Navy.

tallcole's website seems to be the ultimate answer, just take your pick.

Don't worry about Probono's opinion. He is not only ex-army but also a
royalist and probably wishes he could use a windsor (sorry, Windsor)
knot to tie his shoelaces as well as his necktie.

If you are one of those who still are rebelling against Mother's
insistance that that you don't just kick your shoes off but always
untie them, then it is better to choose one of the cross-lacing
methods since these will allow more stretch in the laces ...
