Would like to confirm the number of U.S. court filings each year
between 2001 to 2004 inclusive, broken down by Federal, State, and
Local levels. Would also like to understand the average cost of a
filing at each of these levels.

sanjosh-ga,

The answer, I'm sure, is somewhere in the gazillions.

However, there are so many different types of courts, and so many
different types of filings -- not to mention an inherent vagueness in
the word "filings" itself -- that I doubt anyone can provide an answer
to this question. There simply is no centralized database of all
court filings in the US, or even in a given state or locality.

I hope to be proven wrong of course. But in the meantime, you may
want to consider modifying your question to one that is more
approachable.

Perhaps it will help if we break up each level of the system by
various types of courts and then for various types of filings...eg for
federal : supreme/ court of appeals/ district etc; or civil/ criminal
etc..this may make the job simpler.

pafalafa -ga,
maybe you can just provide us with the split in percentages beteen
filings in the federal/ state and local levels?
also, if u can, similar % splits between criminal and civil for each level.
