Dear Andy,
This is some of the information you were seeking. I say some because
there is a vast amount of information on Smith & Nephew and their
Press Office is very efficient at making announcements on their
activities. This has made it difficult to digest and collate. I think
I have answered most of your points and the documents I link to should
provide you with the information and more besides. However, once you
have trawled through the links, do ask for clarification of any part
of the answer if you still require some information.

these link to various statements by Sir Christopher. Because of sheer
quantity, I did not research the other board members' statements.

Clarification of Answer by

Andy,
Thank you for clarification and comments. I?m not sure that I can
provide any more meaningful research on your three specific points:
Customers, Suppliers and Business Partners, given they have a range of
over 1000 products with operations in 33 countries and product sales
in 60 countries. If the information is out there, the data will very
extensive and as a result, extremely time consuming to collect,
collate and analyse. I have tried for a couple of hours and the
results below are rather disappointing. If you requested a specific
product: ?who uses, manufactures, supplies HERMES??, that may have
better results. Also, while I accepted this question at the price you
offered, I have expended considerable time already on this research
and I?m afraid that the time required for this type of research would
require a higher list price. You could place these three specific
points as another question and another researcher may be able to
provide the answers for you.
From my experience of researching on the internet, the type of
information that is most readily available and I can personally offer
is regulatory information, financials, shareholders, directors?
profiles, and general overview of the company?s activities. If there
is information on customers, suppliers and business partners, then
obviously I will supply it, but I think that in the case of Smith &
Nephew, the size of their business makes this impracticable.
If you do wish to ask me further questions on other companies, then do
as you did with question, place my name in the subject line and other
researchers will honour your request. If I feel I cannot provide the
answer I will say so immediately.
Suppliers
======
?Smith & Nephew's products require some tight controls, explains
Blythe. The company makes about 40% of its product at a plant in
Florida, another 40% is imported from global headquarters in the U.K.
and the remaining 20% comes from North American suppliers. All of this
inventory converges on Smith & Nephew's outsourced facility in Atlanta
in an ?unreleased? status.?

?Stealth Medical Technologies, Inc.
Holt, Michigan
Near-net forged titanium for medical implants
Stealth Medical Technologies is a manufacturer and designer of high
performance engine components (10% of sales) and orthopedic implants
(90% of sales). Established in 1992, the company began manufacturing
titanium engine valves for high performance racing cars. In 1993,
Smith & Nephew PLC approached Stealth to manufacture hip implants. In
1994, the company designed a proprietary process called ?near net
forging? using friction screw presses. This process, along with the
expertise in handling titanium and cobalt, has contributed to the
company?s strong growth.?!

Indiana-based Symmetry Medical opened its new Memphis facility
Wednesday, beginning what company officials hope is a long-term
investment in the city. The company, which supplies surgical
instruments, implants and cases to medical device manufacturers like
Smith & Nephew, has had sales representatives in the Memphis area for
the last decade.?

?Smith & Nephew Orthopaedics, a UK (London) and Memphis,
Tennessee-based medical implant manufacturer occupies one of the
fastest growing segments in the whole life science industry. Recently,
the company signed on for Manugistics' end-to-end supply chain
management solution, in order to leverage a burgeoning 30 percent
growth rate. An integrated global supply chain with synchronized
planning and execution will give Smith & Nephew a significant
competitive edge.?

?The licensing agreement established in 2001 with Smith & Nephew is
the first partnership for NUCRYST Pharmaceuticals. NUCRYST owns all
patents and intellectual property for SILCRYST medical coating and is
the exclusive manufacturer of all Acticoat? products for Smith &
Nephew. Under the agreement, NUCRYST receives royalties and
manufacturing payments and is eligible for up to US $56.5 million in
milestone payments for certain regulatory and sales achievements.
Smith & Nephew has sales representatives world wide, providing global
distribution of Acticoat? antimicrobial barrier dressings with
SILCRYST? nanocrystals. Smith & Nephew initiated a North American
sales campaign in June 2001 and began an aggressive sales campaign in
Europe in the fall of 2001. Acticoat? products are sold in 30
countries and the brand is one of the company's fastest growing. The
partnership has been beneficial for both NUCRYST and Smith & Nephew.?
