In Malaysia CD's are extremely cheap. The cite below indicates 5.67
euro's(.98euro=1 dollar), but I doubt that is accurate based on the
same stories we have read or heard about where visitors to Singapore,
Hong Kong or any part of that area were able to buy CD's for a couple
of U.S. dollars even if the CD had not been released in the U.S.
yet!!!
DVD's don't cost much more and many times the DVD is available before
the movie is released in the U.S.(How does that happen without insider
theft??)
These are common stories. You've probably read about the prices of
software averaging under $20 even if it is a major operating system or
new game.
The main point is one of legality. Whenever we take advantage of such
a "Bargain", are we not encouraging piracy and increasing the price of
legal CD's and software locally? Supply and Demand. If SEAsia and
Malaysia and China sold legal products at established prices, would
not the price in the world market be lower?
Also, one should expect that U.S. Customs is very aware of this piracy
and probably catches many of these products on their way into the U.S.
We hear the "successful" tales of purchasing cheap products overseas,
but we don't often get stories or statistics of the number of people
who are caught and fined by Customs.

"In Malaysia cd's and cassettes become much cheaper. This because of
the major illegal copies made in Malaysia. The big music companies
would choose Malaysia as the first market to do the only thing what's
right: an answer to priracy which is (partly) the consequence of the
huge prices of cd's.
The price for a CD in malaysia is now around the Hfl 25 (euro 11,34).
Starting tomorrow the price will be around Hfl 12,50 (euro 5,67) !! "
