When I was a kid I was in my highschool's band. We played a song
called "Invention No. 1" that I really liked. I might be able to find
the sheet music if I dug around enough, but I was hoping that someone
would save me the trouble.

If it exists, I'd like to get a CD of that music.

(My guess is that "Invention" is a general term which would mean that
I'd need to find the author in order to figure out which song this
was. Let me know if I need to find that out.)

How long ago were you in the band?  I ask because if Pinkfreud's
"Invention" isn't what you are looking for, I have another suggestion
to run by you that seems to have been composed in the early 1990s. 
Although it is called "Invention," the title doesn't included the
phrase "No. 1."  Are you sure about the exact title that you have
cited?
