Hi I use Google Desktop search and find it quite handy.

However, I would like to search within a URL for keywords without
having to click on the link and saving the webpage. For instance, I
have a lot of emails with similar liks to this (i.e. a precis of an
article and a link).

Call for ban on gambling
Malaysia ? Debates in the late evening were livened up for a moment
when Lim Hock Seng (DAP-Bagan) urged the Government to ban all forms
of gambling, especially nombor ekor.
Since 1991 Proceedings were extended until 8pm to allow the debate on
the royal address to be concluded, and MPs had braced for a long day.

In the above example, there is a reference to "Magnum and Sports
Toto", which I would like to be able to search within my computer to
all references of this (i.e. particularly all URL's, emails and saved
files)

Is there any simple way to search by keyword within the URL link,
rather than saving the entire web page URL and then having to
categorize to find out where I have stored the email?

Alternatively, what do you recommend as the best solution?

sparklegirl-ga,

I've read your question a few times now, and I find I can't quite
understand what you're asking, or what you need.

Perhaps another researcher will have better luck. But if you find
your question goes unanswered after a while, you may want to try
re-stating it in a way that will let us know what you need a bit more
clearly.

Thanks,

OK, if I understand your question correctly, you want a piece of software that:

Searches your emails and files for keywords (like Desktop Search)

AND

Searches through any website pointed to by a URL in your saved email
messages or files for keywords.

So in your above example you could search for say... "prostitues"
which is mentioned in the article linked, but not in the email
message, and your search would return the email message, and the
article.

It would be tough to search through every URL on your computer like
that everytime you wanted to do a search, but if you didn't mind a bit
of a wait, the software could scan through all the pages linked
whenever you check your mail and do whatever indexing magic that
google's software does. It wouldn't be updated if the site was ever
updated, but the software could even cache a copy of the page on your
computer for later.

I don't know of anything that does that, but Google people, if you're
reading this, it might be a good idea.
