Dear dougco-ga;

Thank you for allowing me to answer your interesting question.

Following the death of Pope Paul VI, on August 6, 1978, Albino Luciani
(already noticably suffering from edema) was elected Pope. He was the
first Pope to choose a double name (John Paul) and also the first to
use the term ?The First? in his formal title.

On September 28, 1978, only 34 days after his coronation Pope John
Paul I died suddenly and unexpectedly died in his apartment at the
Vatican. While there remain many rumors and conspiracy theories
surrounding the death of this Pope, the official cause of death was
listed as a heart attack.

I hope you find that my research exceeds your expectations. If you
have any questions about my research please post a clarification
request prior to rating the answer. Otherwise I welcome your rating
and your final comments and I look forward to working with you again
in the near future. Thank you for bringing your question to us.

Best regards;

I'm confused about your final rating of my answer - not that it
matters now, since it is irreversible. In case you are not aware,
normally what one receives in response to a $2 question is
considerably less detailed than what I have provided.

I didn't know that he include the "I" in his name. Some
superstitious folk could consider that by doing this, he was already
with prescience anticipating his early demise and that his successor
would take the name "John Paul II"

Tutuzdad,

I would suggest you not take on any more questions from this asker.
It seems he/she has no concept of what constitutes a good answer or
what they can expect for $2.00. That's twice dougc0-ga did it to you.
 Keep up the good work!

Thank you for such a complete answer tutuzdad. I would have to agree
with bowler in his estimation of dougco. If he is unhappy with your
response he should do his own research. I however found it
unnecessary to do so because I found everything I needed thanks to
you.

Capndurk,
your user name could suggest that you have a marine orientation and are thinking
THE first John Paul: 18th c. Scot, seaman, captain in the slave trade
and then as a privateer, later adding Jones as a surname, then
fighting for the Americans and much later apostrophied "Father of the
US Navy". He later was a vice-admiral for Catherine the Great of
Russia.

myoarin,

I was calling dougco an ass for giving tutzdad's great answer such a
low rating. It shows immaturity to do that to a GAR, considering he
spent time to try to help him out. Just to clarify something, I wasn't
the one asking the question, but just a commenter on his action. On
another note, please don't take my name literally; it was just a
nickname I was given a couple years ago, and it stuck. :)

Cap'n,
thanks,I agree entirely - now that I know your comment wasn't
referring to the subject of the question (but none of us would do
that). I responded to temper that (being kind of pleased to have the
opportunity finally to have an excuse to add my first thought when
the question was posted). Thanks ;)

Wow, another Pope from Germany after 450 years, the land of Luther!
I wonder if each of the "papabili" in all his humbleness still has
considered what name he would choose if he were elected.
And, do all of those not - never - vote for themselves. ???

Read David Yallop's "In God's Name", for another insight to what
happened to the Pope. Not sure I believe every thing in there, but
it's definitley worth a read.
