Adrian Brody, Oscar-winning actor, apparently leads a double life as a
"hip hop producer" under another name. Is this a legitimate story?
What is his exact role? Is he an "Executive Producer" who provides the
bank roll and then plasters his name on the album, or is he a
"Producer" who creates/crafts/melds the music? If the latter, is he a
legitimate contender? In either case, please cite specific albums /
artists / etc.

Dear Slim Branicus,

The answer is mainly "yes", with a little "no". Yes, because Brody is
an hip-hop producer, who goes by the name "A. Ranger". "No", because
as serious as he is with this thing, it doesn't match his acting
career (or other people's musical career).

As you can read in Voila's link:
"C-Rayz? growing appeal has also lead to several interesting
relationships. Through a mutual friend who was shopping his material
to Def Jam, he ended up meeting Oscar winning actor Adrien Brody. As
far as C-Rayz knew, Brody was just another laid back, up and coming
beatmaker who went by the production alias A-Ranger, ?I didn?t know
Adrien was anybody at first. We just went into the club and smoked a
blunt and just chilled on some cool out shit,? he remembers. ?He said
Yo, I got some beats I want you to check out. So he played me like
seven of them and I rhymed to all of them and he was impressed and
said ?Yo, next time I come to New York we?re gonna get it poppin.?
He?s a man of his word, and when he came back to we went to Studio 54,
recorded a couple of songs, and we?re going to try and make something
happen with it.? C-Rayz wound up putting the tracks on his recently
released Limelight album, and Brody will also be making a guest
appearance in his next music video. ? We still talk. He called the
other day and said he?ll be in our video,? states C-Rayz. ?He?s
definitely Hollywood right now, and he deserves it.? (SOURCE: Tim

The unofficial fan-site Adrien-Brody.com tells us that :
"He's also a hip-hop enthusiast who has produced demo tracks under the
name A. Ranger. He's even mulling a collaboration with pal P. Diddy.
"He's as serious about his music as he is about his acting," says
Keith Gordon, who directed Brody in October's The Singing Detective."
(adrien-brody.com, <http://www.adrien-brody.com/news/039.htm>).

There's only: "one cut out there - "This Ain't a Movie," on the
soundtrack to his 1998 indie flick "Restaurant." Brody recorded it as
A. Ranger and got the Rawcotiks to rap over it." (SOURCE: Call him
Oscar-Dog!, <http://anythingbut.com/archive/2003_03_28.html#004938>).
You can hear a sample of that here: This ain't a Movie

(This will open your Media Player automatically)

However, as you can see from the number of tracks he produced - not a
whole album, but tracks, only one of which has been commercially
released. You can see "A Ranger's" production career summarised (with
this only album) at:

I hope this answers your question. Please contact me if you need any
clarification on this answer before you rate it. My search terms have
been:
"a ranger" "hip hop"
