It depends on the number of employees and whether or not the employer
offers group health coverage to younger employees. If the employer
does not offer group health coverage to younger employees, then it
does not have to offer it to employees over 65.
If the employer has 20 or more employees, it must offer those over 65
the same coverage it offers younger employees, and they may want to
delay enrollment in Medicare Part B. If the employer has fewer than
20 employees, though, it is not required to provide the group health
plan as primary coverage for employees eligible for Medicare. If the
employer does provide group health benefits to someone who is enrolled
in Medicare, the group health insurance pays only after Medicare pays.
