I am attempting to get a work permit to work in the United Kingdom.
I've been referred to a website called workpermit.com , which seems to
be a commercial site that submits and manages application packages to
the UK immigration authorities. What I want to know is whether I can
submit these documents myself (avoiding workpermit.com's high fees)
and if so, where I get them and to whom I may submit directly. I
believe my best shot is with the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme.
Thank you. Betsy

Dear betsyj-ga,

workpermit.com is indeed a immigration consultancy firm. You can,
however, make your own application. I am going to refer you to the
British Government?s Home Office web site which specifically deals
with this issue and you will immediately see that it is a very complex
and bureacratic process. Their FAQS page notes that "Do I need a legal
adviser when I make an immigration application? You do not need a
legal adviser to make an immigration application. However, you may
find it helpful to take advice."

Start at this page and explore the information to see which is the
most appropriate for you. I cannot advise you much further as I do not
know your personal situation.

You can then download the forms and guidance on how to submit them from this page.

If you gain a work permit you may be required must obtain entry
clearance before travelling.
This site will take you through the process and supplies the relevant forms.
