I drive a 2001 Toyota Land Cruiser. It has a DVD player, built into the
in-dash navigation system. It was designed with a safety feature that
only allows the movie to play while the truck is stopped and the
emergency brake is on. The movie picture turns off once the wheels
start rolling (the movie continues to play and the sound continues).
Is there a way to override this safety feature, so that passengers can
watch movies while on the road?

Hi baldbc,

Since the government has gotten
involved in the issues concerning
watching video in a vehicle, it
will be illegal to disconnect or
override such features. That also
means that we (Google Answers) won't
be able to guide you in the process.

But as with most interlock safety
features, this will probably be
easily defeated with a single wire
being removed or shorted to ground,
etc.

So, yes... it can be overridden.

You may want to check with a local
stereo shop and inquire if they
would be willing to do the work
for you, or show you what to change.

Don't forget this may void one or
more warranties that may be present
on your vehicle. And don't forget
it's dangerous to view videos while
operating a vehicle =)

Good luck with it,
-AI

Here in Canada, DVD's in moving vehicles are LEGAL and play, but only
if facing the rear passenger seats.

Most states have a provision that any TV, DVD etc. can only be played
if the screen is not visible to the driver - for obvious safety
reasons.
