I'm trying to find out if there is an online service that allows the "storage" of simple text files that can be easily edited. I've used online storage services in the past (example: Xdrive), but I'm looking for something else. With services like those, you need to download any files you've stored, make changes, and then re-upload them. I'm looking for something simpler. I have certain lists (what CD's I've burned, what software I'm looking for, etc.) and I want these lists to be easily accessible from home or work. I want to be able to edit these lists online easily and save the changes while online. It should also be secure. Does such a thing exist? Thanks. -Eric |

Although I have not used this service myself, I believe what you are looking for in called "Online File Folder". This service is available at http://domainspaces.com and http://godaddy.com I think the rates are reasonable at $9.95/yr for 1000mb of space. You may want to check out either one of these sites for more information. Regards Jack http://klicktheweb.com |

Easterangel, Have you used either of these services? I took a look at the two you mentioned and I don't get it. What is the catch? Banner ads, bombarbed by email solicitations, nothing is ever completely free (my opinion). Jack |

To me, bannerads are meaningless. So I don't consider them to be a cost. I think it's just the conditioning I've gone through to ignore them. I've used Yahoo Notepad. The downside is that there is a 5000 char limit. Just a thought...maybe you could use a free email service and just save a draft of an email which would be your notepad. Reopen, edit, resave...presto! |

Thanks James, I didn't notice the 5000 character limit when I was looking over the Yahoo Notes site. Now I understand how it could be free because of the limited space available. Jack |

Hi webklicks-ga! Yes I have tried Yahoo Notepad before since they are integrated with Yahoo Mail. However; it just so happens that the sites I referenced were free. Being free was not a concern when I posted them since it was not a requirement in the original question. Anyway this was posted in the comments section so gooch77-ga was not charged for an official answer. Thanks! |

Thanks everyone for the responses. For now I'm going to go with Yahoo Notepad. While it's true that there's a 5000 character limit, that's per note, so an unusually long list could be split. The good part is that you can indeed edit the notes and resave while online. Most of my lists aren't that long. You can also create folders to organize your notes. As an added bonus, there's a free sync utility you can download to sync your notes, calendar, and addresses with Outlook. While I'm not a big fan of Outlook, we do use it at work, so now I can sync everything between the two. Thanks again, -Eric G. |
