Hi fully: The following page explains the difference between active and passive voices very well: Active and Passive Voice URL: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/grammar/g_actpass.html Quote: "In sentences written in active voice, the subject performs the action expressed in the verb; the subject acts....In sentences written in passive voice, the subject receives the action expressed in the verb; the subject is acted upon. The agent performing the action may appear in a 'by the . . .' phrase or may be omitted." So, that means that the first clause is passive (note the "by") and the second phrase is active. The answer is d. Search Strategy (on Google): * grammar "active voice" "passive voice" websearcher |

I would have to agree with the answer, D. Usually, you can tell when the voice is passive simply by asking: Is someone actually doing the action, or is the action being done to something? For example: "I did my homework." is active because I am doing the homework (active voice). but if I say: "The homework was done by me." it is passive because I am describing action done to the homework. Try and avoid the passive voice as much as possible. |
