Question ID: 506212
I want to add two additional TV outlets in my home without running
coax cable in the attic, walls, etc. I'm trying to find a wireless
solution whereby I can plug a transmitter unit into an existing cable
wall outlet and then use matching receivers to feed the A/V signal to
the TVs. Terk makes products for this kind of thing but the
transmitter units don't have RF inputs, only composite video and
left/right audio RCA. Does anyone know of a transceiver product that
will do what I want?

These look like they would work. You need something with a built-in
cable tuner if you are plugging directly into the cable outlet.

I think this is your best bet:

"CATV2400 Wireless Cable TV system" Angeltrax
http://www.angeltrax.com/hot_products_pages/catv2400.asp (You can read
all about it, including the owner's manual, which describes how to
connect it to your cable outlet. Available at BestBuy.com).

"Angeltrax CATV2400 Wireless Cable TV Kit" pc powerzone
http://store.pcpowerzone.com/anwicatvkit.html (another source selling
the Angeltrax product).

The following look like they would also work, but I was unable to
locate anyone currently selling them.

"CL75 - CableLink 75" Laser
http://www.laser.com/?page=shop/flypage&product_id=274&category_id=.

"Wireless Video Sender - AWV354T/322R" AIRWAVE Technologies Inc.
http://www.wireless-audio-video.com/wireless-video-sender/AWV354T-322R.htm.

An alternative approach is to get a cheap VCR and use it as the tuner
with one of the wireless products having RCA-only inputs and an RF
extender.

Wonko

The CATV2400 by Angeltrax appears to be the one but would you agree
from what can be gleaned online that the receiver unit has no RF
output so if the TV only has an RF input, then an RF modulator would
be needed.

It appears that the Cablelink 75 is a European product given that it
has SCART connections not used in the US. There seems to be very
limited information about the AIRWAVE unit so the Angeltrax unit seems
to come out on top.

As you say, a cheap VCR ($40 now from Wal-Mart) is another way to go.
I was thinking how feasible it might be to strip the tuner out of the
unit and install it in some kind of small project box. If I'm right
about the RF output on the Angeltrax unit, a VCR tuner would answer
this aspect.

Yes, I just read the owner's manual and if the TV does not have a
composite video input, then you would need to add an RF modulator to
the output of the receiver. I think they are pretty cheap these days.
One advantage over the VCR approach is that a lot of the competing
products require you to buy the remote extender to operate the VCR
separately from the video transmitter, resulting in a lot of extra
hardware. I think I saw one in my search that was integrated, though.

Best of luck with your project.

Wonko
