Hi. I'm a young enthusiastic photographer, and i'm moving to New York
for the summer. I was wondering if you could do some research into as
many avenues of photography work as possible, to maximise my chance
that i can spend my time doing something that i very much enjoy.

I'm 21 years old, Scottish, and i will have a full work Visa for the
summer. I shoot on a Nikon D70 DSLR, with a 17-55 f2.8 Nikkor DX lens
(I also have a new telephoto coming in). I also have my own Pro. flash
gun (SB800).

An internship would be wonderful, and it definitely doesn't need to be
a paid position (although, i wouldn't say no). I think if i'm thrown
in at the deep end, i can cope pretty well, yet I'd love to work
somewhere as an apprentice, or trainee... where i could feel like i
was being encouraged, and given the opportunity to learn.

Alsom, I would dearly love to work for a reputable organisation,
particularly in a recognised young persons internship scheme.

I have previous experience with student newspaper photography, and
shooting music concerts for a music magazine.

I will be in New York from the 31st of May until late August (when
school term starts).

I'm also a student, but not of photography.

Photography is my love, and i just want to spend as much time doing it
as possible ;)

If you don't find anything, could you possibly give me a couple of
broad hints as to what sort of work i could find in NY for the summer?

Thanks!

hi, easterangel,

Unfortunately, the majority of those listed actually dealt with either
photography museums, or curating spaces for photographers. There were
a couple that DID deal with photography work, yet were restricted to
American residents, and/or American students going to certain
colleges.

I fear google answers may actually not be quite sufficient. Somebody
has told me about a site called 'craigslist', which i may try.

If you feel that you know any good avenues for further searching, then
i encourage you to do so. If not, however, i suggest we consider the
question sort of 'defunct'.

Thanks

Sal

Hi again!

I realized that some of the links I provided were indeed just
available for some students in particular colleges. I am sorry for
that mistake. However; I feel that your question was answered since
some of those I posted provided equal opportunites and since you a
full work visa, then you can compete with these jobs. In fact some of
them encourage people from outside the US to apply. But of course this
answer does not guarantee that you will get a job, but only possible
avenues. The links I feel that you can use are the following:

International Center of Photography
http://www.princetonreview.com/cte/profiles/internshipGenInfo.asp?internshipID=445

TIME Magazine
http://www.time.com/time/faq/#p4

Center for Photography at Woodstock

I know about Craigslist but I did not include them in my post since in
your original question, you were looking for "reputable
organizations". Some of the postings in Craigslist lack company
details and only provide an email address where you can send your
resume. Due to this criteria, I did not include Craigslist in my
answer.

I hope that these things help in clarifying my answer.

Thanks again!
