Hello brettola, I hope you don't mind me offering my twopenneth. I am
a professional photographer from the UK. The industry standard is
Adobe Photoshop, which is by far the best photo editing software.
However, it will not do everything you require. At the very minimum I
would say you need Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements - much cheaper),
Paintshop Pro, your own camera's software, and time to read up on them
all.
-Have date/timestamp on the front of the picture: To have this as part
of the filename it needs to originally be set up on the camera itself.
See your manual or menu settings. To be on the photo itself you will
have to use Text and Actions if within Photoshop.
-Auto correction of color, tint, contrast: Photoshop and most other
software has this but it is not always reliable. Manual correction is
usually much better. Do both and see which you prefer.
-Batch renaming of files: Paint Shop Pro will do this as well as
provide thumbnails for a 'contact sheet'. See their Help.
-Email pics, with auto resizing for transmission: I personally do not
know of software that will do this. I suspect you may have to do it
manually, because even if software could reduce the image, the file
size would still be large (often too large to send via email). Any
Image software will allow you to reduce a file size. An example of an
acceptable size to email would be 6x4 inch @ 72 dpi. (This will appear
at that size if your screen is at the highest resolution, but would
look like a postage stamp if you tried to print it, as print dpi needs
to be 320).
-Print many different pics on 1 sheet of paper, size permitting: Paint
Shop Pro has thumbnails as stated earlier. If you mean four or six
images on a sheet, then most basic image software that comes with your
new digital camera will do this. Otherwise Photoshop allows you to
make templates.
Hope this helps - Good luck! |
