I have a Dell System Model OptiPlex GX60
using Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600
I had a "freebie" copy of Pinnacle which came with some hardware I
bought. Like most of these, I had the opportunity to upgrade to a
full version. When I went to accomplish this, the install routine
can't remove the original program! I noticed that my "program files"
directory was set to read only, and I tried to change that. The
machine goes through a "routine", saying it's doing just that, but
when it finishes and I right click on the folder, it remains read
only!! I'm frustrated to say the least. |

Hi banquo33708,
are you attempting this as
a user with administrator
privileges? Or better yet,
as an administrator?
thanks,

As far as I know, I am logged on as the administrator. When I click
the "Start" button, the pop up identifies "administrator".
The computer is located upstairs in our kitchen, so I've never felt
the need to enable any guest or visitor accounts. That being said, I
did buy the Dell from a computer shop who had gotten them from a
brokerage house that closed. They told me, however, that Xp Pro was
reinstalled in what they described as a "clean" installation.

Hi again banquo33708,
One more question... when you
right click on Program Files
and goto its properties... is
the checkbox for Read-Only
checked with a black or grey
checkmark?
thanks,

I should have mentioned that. I did notice that the box and check are
that milky grey that Windows sometimes uses.
