Question ID: 506948
I am looking for the annual case production by US-based wineries
(individually, not in aggregate). The answer would be a table of the
following format:

Winery 1 .............. 2,134 cases
Winery 2 ............. 50,182 cases
...
Winery X ......... 5,000,000 cases
Winery N ............ 125,000 cases

Note: the actual names of the wineries are required (e.g.
Kendall-Jackson, not Winery X). Ideally, data would be for 2004, but
2003 would be OK.

There are (by varying accounts) between 2,700 and 3,300 US-based
wineries. 95% of these wineries produce less than 10,000 cases
annually (see http://www.freethegrapes.org/research.html#figures).

I would like to get information for at least 1,500 wineries (i.e. the
table above would have at least 1,500 distinct rows).

I have inquired via e-mail at the TTB (Alcohol & Tobacco Tax and Trade
Bureau [formerly the ATF] - www.ttb.gov) to see if such a table is
published, but have not received a reply.

I am familiar with the Top 30 listing produced by Wine Business Monthly.
which is insufficient data for my purposes.

An answer to this question would NOT be a place where I can buy the
data (although I am interested in knowing the answer to that question
if this one is not answered). I am looking for publicly available
data (with at most a nominal media charge).

Please request clarification as needed. Thank you.

I received this response from the TTB:
---
We are not permitted to reveal the productions levels of any specific
winery. If you go to our web page http://www.ttb.gov/ and select
Frequently Requested Listing you can get a list of all Wineries and
Bonded Wine Cellars but we can't publish any wine production for a
company or if there is 3 wineries or les in a state we are not
permitted to list the wine production for that state because it is
possible that someone could figure out the production of one of the
wineries in that state.
---

This means that it is much less-likely that a public source of information exists.
