dtnl42-ga,

Thanks for your question.

It's easy enough to point to many interesting dictionary-type
definitions of "truth", such as these:

but, in truth, I suspect that's not what you're looking for.

From my own perspective, there are two broad categories where "truth"
has some sort of meaning.

--First, there is the scientific/mathematical/logical category. New
"truth" is established by induction/deduction based on knowledge
already accumulated and believed to be true. Oddly though, there are
always basic underlying assumptions that cannot be demonstrated to be
true. They are considered self-evident (e.g. parallel lines never
meet), but we really don't know for a fact if they are true or not.

--Second, there is "truth" in other, non-science areas of life, and
here, truth largely comes down to a matter of faith and belief. The
rocks and trees in the world around me truly exist, because my senses
tell me so. God truly exists, because the Bible or the magnificance
of the universe or human goodness -- or some other set of beliefs --
tells me so.

So, are these the sorts of things you're interested in knowing about
"truth"? If they are, I can try to expand on the above, and find a
few links to similar sorts of discussions about the nature of truth.

But if that's NOT what you're after...then what can we do for you? Let us know.

Hello again,

I haven't forgotten about this, but I also haven't had the chance yet
to do it justice.

If no one else picks up the question, I hope to get to it in the next few days.

I would look deeper for a definition

NIV Bible says: JN 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth
and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

The Definition of Truth is Jesus! That being said look here: JN 1:1 In
the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word
was God. Many believe this to refer to Jesus and Gods oneness. If God
and Jesus are one and Jesus is the truth then Gods word (the Holy
sciptures or Bible) is Truth!

May the Lord Lead you, and you be wise enough to follow.

One comment (I'm speaking from my own personal experience) Since
solomonsmind-ga has already shown how the truth is God's word, we must
always remember that. Do not listen to a pastor, priest, wether it be
Billy Graham or the Pope unless what they say is backed up by the
Bible. I have not gone to church for quite some time because most, and
I do mean most, throw in traditions of men totally condradicting the
very word itself. I know alot of this is not intentional, but still.
Truth has been covered up, by ignorance, and both intentional and
unintentional means.. we have to uncover the truth. I have been
actively searching and reading and trying to understand truth for 4
years.. it has taken me on the most wild and exciting journy of my
life, and the knowledge gained is priceless. This is probably not
making alot of since so ill just re emphesise the point:

Read the bible with an open mind, throwing away man's traditions and
what is conventionally thought to be true, and your eyes will be
opened soooo much!
(for example.. if you read the first 6 chapters of genesis without the
pre concieved notion that they ate an apple, you would have a TOTALLY
different view of things.. granted you may have to go back into the
hebrew.. especially gen3:3 "touch") this is just one example, there
are lots! Truth will prevaile though :)
