I was looking through the CD slick for '(What's the Story)Morning
Glory', and the lyrics for the song 'Hello' contains the line "It's
good to be back".

I heard them singing the line on the 'Was There Then' video, but not
on the album.

Is there a version of the album where they do actually sing that line?

There is no answer at this time.

Hello. Listen to track one of WTSMG again - about a minute minute from
the end you can definitely hear 'It's good to be back' repeated a few
times, although it's more of a vocoded sound effect than an actual
vocal. Have a listen.

I agree with markabe-ga, I just don't hear those words. Not unless
it's a Peter Frampton-style talking guitar thingie, and I never have
heard those sorts of things the way other people do.

I found a possible explanation for the absence of audible words with
the lyric "It's good to be back." It appears that Oasis lifted that
little section of the song from longtime rocker Gary Glitter:

"The band paid Gary Glitter £200,000 in a 1999 out-of-court settlement
for using the lyric "Hello, hello, it's good to be back" which was
used on Hello."

Below is a link to CDNow's audio clips for "Rock & Roll - Gary
Glitter's Greatest Hits." Click on item 7, "Hello! Hello! I'm Back
Again." About 17 seconds into this audio clip, you hear the original
Gary Glitter version of the line "Hello, hello, it's good to be back."

So my theory (which I cannot support with links, I'm afraid) is that
the terms of the lawsuit required that subsequent pressings of the CD
should electronically alter the song in such a way that the Gary
Glitter lyrics were no longer there (although the musical riff is
certainly still present.)

My husband has an old 45 rpm recording of "American Pie" that he
bought in Spain in the early '70s. It is censored in an odd way. When
Don Maclean comes to the lines "And the three men I admire most / the
Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost / they caught the last train for the
coast / the day the music died," the phrase "Father, Son, and the Holy
Ghost" is replaced by a shrill whistling tone that sounds like an
electronic alarm clock. The decision to blank out those words was made
to avoid causing offense to the many Roman Catholics in Spain.

Maybe something similar happened to "Hello Hello." It would be
interesting to see whether alternate versions still exist.

I have the Australian version of the album on CD, Catalogue #4810202.
Track 1 is 3 minutes, 20 seconds long, and "Hello, Hello, It's good to
be back, good to be back" can quite easily be heard three times
starting from 2:20 till 2:40 of the song.

I have the UK version of Morning Glory from the first day of issue so
I presume it is the original version that I own - and it does have
"it's good to be back" sung on it. I agree with Pinkfreud-ga in that
you have a later pressing of the album which had the sample removed
for legal reasons.

first of all a clarification of the line, is in the subject.
the video u saw i believe is called "there and then".
and yes, they actually sing that lyric, if u listened carefully
to the original WTS(MG)? CD, but it has some effect applied to it.
the interesting thing is, would gary glitter have sued oasis if the
album did not sell as many as it did? and if not, why did he wait
4 years? i mean, it is just a line...not as if that helped sell millions
or as if fans like myself bought it just for those miserable few words.
to be honest, does it make a diff whether u hear the line or not?

Yes, the lyrics are there and if you have any live versions you can
hear it clear as a bell
