Question ID: 507205
The steering wheel of my steering wheel is locked. My owner's manual
says that moving steering wheel a bit is sometime necessary to allow
the electronic key to release the steering wheel lock, but that has
failed. Is there another option that I can perform to unlock the
steering wheel/make the electronic key work? The batteries in the key
are good.

Hi joe2,

Apart from turning the wheel left to
right as you try to get it unstuck
you will not have many options.

As a safety/security feature, the
interlocks for steering wheels are
fairly robust. Even on a 32 yr old
car I have, it is over 1/2" in dia
by 3/4" long, protruding straight
into the steering arm. And on that
car it takes a while to get to it.

I could imagine on a well built
late model Mercedes you will end
up destroying a part or two to
get to it unless you have the
correct tools and know how.

Do you have AAA? Is the vehicle
at your house? Have you contacted
the local Mercedes dealership?
