Hello, I am looking for the meaning of the name Pagwachuan or Pagwa. More specifically I would like to know why they named a lake 30 miles east of Longlac, Ontario Canada, Pagwachuan Lake. I believe this to be an aboriginal indian name but I am not certain. I believe this to be of Ojibwa descent. For more information check this link. http://academic.algonquincollege.com/students/camp0331/ginoogaming.html Thanks much, Chad |

Pagwa takes its name from the Pagwachuan River, which translates from the Cree as Shallow Running River. http://www.pinetreeline.org/other/other29/other29ap.html |

Hi Chad, I checked the book, "The Ojebway Language", by Edward Wilson, which includes an Ojebway/English Dictionary, and Pagwa (or something similar) is not included. Regards, hummer |
