Hello,

I am looking for the meaning of the name Pagwachuan or Pagwa. More
specifically I would like to know why they named a lake 30 miles east
of Longlac, Ontario Canada, Pagwachuan Lake. I believe this to be an
aboriginal indian name but I am not certain. I believe this to be of
Ojibwa descent. For more information check this link.

Pagwa takes its name from the Pagwachuan River, which translates from
the Cree as Shallow Running River.

Hi Chad,

I checked the book, "The Ojebway Language", by Edward Wilson, which
includes an Ojebway/English Dictionary, and Pagwa (or something
similar) is not included.

hummer
