Question ID: 50800
Late spring or early summer last year there was an article in
the WaPo about a sailing vessel named Guinivere; it was used to
accompany cargo ships in transit to Murmansk during WW II. Two
men were featured in the article, one named Thomas Kelly.

I have searched high and low and have come up empty handed.

Anybody know of this?

Hi there!

Wow, that certainly was a merry chase! But I think I've got your
article for you:

The Last Man of War - By Ken Ringle - Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, June 17, 2001; Page F01

http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?pagename=article&node=&contentId=A6415-2001Jun15

The article discusses Tom Kelly, Walter Bartholomew, and the USS
Guinevere.

To locate the article, I searched the Washington Post Archives for all
permutations of Guinevere (Guinivere, Guinnevere, Gwenivere, etc.) in
2001. Once I located the article, I searched on the full article
title to obtain a direct link to the article - attempting to view from
the archive search results incurs a charge, but truly interesting
articles end up linked directly all over the web.

I found the link in the mailing list archive for the Louisiana
Governor's Program for Gifted Children:

Search on "the last man of war", in Google's cache

Hope this helps!
