There are many websites that access large databases relating to
property ownership, bankruptcy, marriage/divorce, personal and
business phone numbers, criminal records, etc. that are available to
anyone willing to pay for this information with a credit card.

I realize that personal judgment is required to establish which of
these is the "best" website, but I suspect that only a handful would
rise to the top when considering criteria that would be relevant.

I believe the best websites of this nature would access the broadest
amount of public information available, would have access to public
information from all 50 states, and be able to deliver this
information at a competitive price--keeping in mind that more
comprehensive information that is broad and accurate in nature would
be expected to cost more.

Can you give a recommendation as to the best website that contains the
above information that is available to the general public, and cite
specific reasons or refererences to support this choice?

A tip will be offered for supertb research on this topic.

The final line in the question should refer to "superb" research!

(I appear to be having some keyboard problems. Please ignore the
"unfinished" clarification as well!)

I've gathered some info for you about the top "people-info" services
that can be accessed online. There are hundreds of such services; as
is sometimes the case on the Internet, some of them are ripoffs. The
services listed below are among the most reliable and trustworthy; I
have used two of these services myself (Intelius and US Search), and I
have acquaintances who speak highly of the others.

Search Systems is a huge public records directory that is free:

US Search is a useful site that offers several services for a fee:

"All of our search products access our extensive network of third
party public and private databases. Once you enter the search
criteria, our experts comb through these databases in search of the
person you are seeking. The more accurate the search criteria you
provide, the higher the likelihood that we will find the individual.
We then provide a report to you with our findings...

US Search's network of databases contains information from the
following three categories:

-Public records are records maintained by the government, such as court records.

-Publicly Available Records are records generally made available to
the public, for example, phone books.

-Private Records are records, which private companies create and
maintain such as marketing lists. They are not freely available to the
general public."

These services are also fee-based:

"Intelius is an individual reference service, a company that provides
information used to help identify and locate individuals.

Intelius provides information solutions for consumers and small
businesses using public records and publicly-available information.
Our products help people find other people, verify the identities of
individuals they encounter, manage risk, and ensure personal safety.

"LocateMe...

We offer electronic access to over 760,000,000 public records. We
break our records into four categories based on their source. The four
categories are Archive, Warranty, Loose and Death. The archive records
are a collection of hundreds of databases combined together and
stripped of duplicates. Our Warranty collection consists of millions
of records obtained from odd sources such as warranty cards, magazine
subscriptions and catalog sales. Loose records are records gathered
from a streaming source of live data. These records are more current,
but their nature allows for only month/year sorting. The Death records
include an up-to-date index of every citizen who had a social security
card and passed away.

Our Public Records search covers all 50 States including Hawaii and Alaska.

You must have at least either a First name or a Last name, or you can
search using a single data of birth (see here) and you must provide an
area to search in, be it one State or ALL States. The more information
you provide, the better your chances of locating the individual.

It costs $39 (thirty nine dollars) to search using our service. There
is no limit to the number of matches returned (within reason). There
is NO CHARGE if we fail to find a match to your data."

If I were to choose only one of the services listed above, it would be
Fiind, which is owned and operated by one of the most intelligent and
conscientious people I've had the pleasure of meeting on the Internet.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if anything is unclear or
incomplete; I'll gladly offer further assistance before you rate my
answer.

Best regards,
pinkfreud

While I agree with some of what has already been commented on, I would
suggest going straight to http://www.theultimates.com/white/. The
Ultimate White Pages search most of the above fore mentioned and some
others. I believe the hardest part is finding people, once found
retrieving the information seems quite easy.
I hope this helps.

May the Lord lead you, and you be wise enough to follow.
