Hi! I'm a sound designer and I can't find a sound for he project I'm working on...
The sound I'm looking for is the famous "bing" heard when seatbelts
should be fasten in a big Airbus (A330 or A340) or Boeing (767,
747...). It's a single tone, probably triggered by the pilot himself,
that sounds very loud...
It looks pretty simple to get, but I need it very "clean",
without any ambient noise, so any recording made in an airplane flying
or taxiing isn't good enough. It has to be recorded when the airplane
is "parked", as the sound is going to be played very loudly and by
itself.
Also, a old 8-bit 22kHz .wav file won't do; it has to be at least
16-bit, 44kHz quality...

I own and have access to an incredible quantity of sound banks and
libraries and checked every commercial "online" sound providers
(sounddogs.com, prosounds.com, etc..), yet none of them have that
sound recorded cleanly; the "drone" of the cabin is also always
present, so it doesn't work.

If no recording exists of such a sound, at least if I can obtain the
name and contact info of the company / companies which build the P.A.
and paging systems of those commercial airplanes, they could probably
help me...

Many thanks!

JS

Have you tried cleaning the drone?

Regarding the "cleaning" question...

Yes, I did, but as the noise is actually broadband, it's impossible to
get rid of it without severely hurting the sound...

Thanks!

Is it really a single ding? This ding-dong sure sounds familiar:

(if that doesn't work, try going here and clicking the preview)

Unfortunately that is a low sample with a little crackle, but no engine noise.

It is really odd (to me) that all of those sound effect banks don't
have a seat belt chime. I would have just assumed. :)

I am sure that you can find some old Bing Crosby recordings.

Wow ... That would be so much more melodious. Wouldn't it?

My 1993 Mazda 626 has a "bing" alert noise when the door's open and it
sounds *exactly* like that aeroplane bing. It keeps us amused for
hours. (Gotta get out more.) Go find an old Mazda and open the door
when the keys are in the ignition, (but without the engine running)
and you'll hear it!

Cheers
Stressedmum.
