Hello nick2646:
Thanks for the great question!
I looked high and low for this information for you, both on the Web
and at my local library. When you are looking for records for things
like wedding veils, the best place to go is to the Guinness World
Record people. I went to their website:
http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/
and did some searching. However, they didn't list anything about
record veils here. Not to be daunted, and knowing that they only list
a fraction of their records on the website, I went to my local
library. The 2005 edition of the Guiness Book of World Records had no
listing for bridal/wedding veils, but the 2004 edition did!
"Longest Wedding Veil - Katsura Yumi Briday House of Tokyo, Japan,
created the world's longest bridal veil measuring 6,639 ft. 11.5 in.
(2023.86 m). It was used in a civil wedding ceremony at the Takarazuka
Hotel, Takarazuka, Hyogo, Japan, on Dec. 31, 2000. Around 10,000
people helped the bride with her veil."
This record was on pg. 92 of the 2004 edition, but there was no
picture. more information on this edition can be found at:

I did a thorough search on the web for images of this veil, but was
not able to find any.
Now, is that still the record? The only mention I've found of a longer
veil revolves around an austrian bride, Eva Hofbauer:
Woman claims to have longest bridal veil

Quote: Here comes the bride, and there goes her veil ? all 1.7 miles
of it. Eva Hofbauer went to her wedding claiming to be wearing the
longest bridal veil in the world, the Austria Press Agency reported.
Her groom could only watch, robbed of any attention, as Hofbauer was
assisted by hundreds of young people who carried the veil into the
church in Korneuburg, a town on the Danube River just northwest of
Vienna. Mayor Wolfgang Peterl said he hoped the veil would earn a
place in Guinness World Records. The previous record-holder was said
to be a Japanese bride whose veil was 1.2 miles long."
The Humpday Times
URL: http://www.humpdaytimes.co.uk/HT6.html
Quote: "Eva Hofbauer claimed the world record for the world's longest
bridal veil when she was married in Austria wearing a 2.74 kilometre
long veil carried by hundreds of young people. The previous record was
held by a Japanese bride with a 1.93km veil."
There are no images for that veil either.
The best image of a really long veil that I found was one for the
wedding of two famous Ethiopian marathon runners, Gezahegne Abera &
Elfenesh Alemu, who were married in 2003.

I've seen various sites claim that the veil was anywhere from 100m to
600m in length - nowhere near the official record (even though some
sites claim that they have the record).
How to determine which veil is officially recognized as the current
record holder? Unfortunately, Guinness no longer answers "what is the
current record" emails:
Contact Us
URL: http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/contact/contact2.asp?opt=Record
Quote: "We are very sorry, but due to the amount of record enquiries
we receive, we are unable to answer record related enquiries. However,
look out every year for the Guinness World Records annual, on sale at
the end of summer."
IF you are interested in making a record attempt, there is a way to
get this information, but it could take weeks to receive a reply:
Making A Record Attempt
URL: http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/records2/Checker/Intro1.asp
Quote: "Thank you for your interest in setting or breaking a Guinness
World Record. Please take the time to read the information on the
following pages and to complete our proposal form, which should only
take 5-10 minutes. This is to allow us to give you the best advice on
your proposal."
Search Strategy (on Google - Web and Images):
* world record longest "wedding veil"
* Gezahegne Abera married
* Elfenesh Alemu veil
* longest wedding OR bridal veil record
* "eva hofbauer" veil
* record veil
* long veil
* longest veil
I hope this helps. I will let you know what I hear back from Guinness.
Please let me know what clarification, if any, you need on this
question before you rate my answer.
Thanks.
