It is usually reflected as payment history for the borrower (your husband) but not always. You should ask the credit card company to make sure it counts towards his credit history. But they will be sure to report it on both of your histories if the debt is paid late or not paid. As a cosigner, it's your responsibility to make sure he pays the debt in a timely manor. Another thing you might consider to boost his credit (if you don't need your good credit history in the next couple years) is to merge your credit histories into 1 history. What you'd have to do is write to each of the 3 credit bureaus and ask them to merge your histories. They will do so and then the 2 of you will have 1 score that will (presumably) be higher than his score but lower than your current score. Then the 2 of you can build your score together as you continue to use your credit wisely... just be sure to teach him how to use credit wisely. http://www.afge.org/Index.cfm?Page=MemberBenefits&FuseAction=Info&BenefitID=4 |
