Hi- I recently inherited a used HP laptop operating on the Windows XP
system. I have been trying to change Internet Options through the
control panel but I get an error message saying that I need to enter
the supervisors password...which I don't have and have no access to.
How do I overide this and reset a password and change my settings? As
the new owner I want to the laptop acessible to all parts of the web
including adult content which is blocked and also making the computer
to stop blocking pop-ups. It currently thinks my aol mail is a pop-up
too. Help! And ?Thanks

This is a place where you can download a utility to erase your
administrator password. It will allow you to blank it out with out
having to know it. It works well, just make sure you follow the
directions because you can mess stuff up with it.

You can try to access the bios on boot up and disable the supervisors
password there. that should free up your internet controls.

May the Lord lead you, and you be wise enough to follow.

solomonsmind,

The bios password does not affect the passwords set in the operating
system (OS), XP in the case. The BIOS password affects the computer
startup (before the OS gets loaded) and/or modifying the BIOS.

what it is refering to is the system administrator account if you boot
up and hit f8 after the system beep a menu will appear choose safe
mode, then the admin account will appear as a selectable login user
account. login under admin go to the control panel and select user
account click the the name of the user account you normally use,
select the radio button that says administrative rights save then
reboot. your users account will now have administrative right to
adjust sytem settings. the admin password is blank by default. if the
admin password has been set, you must use a third party software to
reset it or just pop in you windows cd and reload the system.

It looks like this question is about the "Content Advisor" password in
Internet Explorer. Information on reseting this password can be found
