Rarp123 --

You might wish to clarify this, as when I read "single day" I'd
nominate any football Saturday in the fall. With all of the Big Ten
and other conferences filling stadia across the country, you'd easily
top 1 million.

But it appears that you're looking for the largest attendance at a single location.

Best regards,

Yes

I'm looking for specific events with the largest single-day attendance.

While all the college football games have a COMBINED attendance over a
given weekend, I'm looking for a list of the largest attendace in one
place on one day.

Thanks for asking for the clarification

Sorry to not have specifics for you, but you should definately be
looking at Nascar for your answer:

"For instance, 17 of the top 20 most-attended sports or entertainment
events in the world are NASCAR events. The largest NASCAR venue in
terms of attendance is the Brickyard 400 with 400,000-plus attendees."

That quote is talking about 2003, but I'm sure similar data will be found for 2004.

I guess it depends on what you count as a sport... personally i dont
count car racing a 'sport'. But i would look at the boston marathon
as well... im sure the attendance for those are in the millions (and
depends on how you define spectators)

I'm with you Volterwd, drive a car isn't a sport :)

But Rarp did include the Indy 500 in his list of examples, and it's
commonly referred to as a sport (much to my disgust) so I had to
include it.

Thanks for the thought about marathons. Boston and NY have huge crowds
- in the millions - and probably have the largest single-day
attendance of any sport (including auto racing as a sport).
