From what I've found over the Internet, the Filipino debut tradition
is traced back to the Spanish occupation era, though there is lack of
a detailed account of how it evolved in Filipino culture. But it is
certain that the tradition is not a native Filipino one.

The thing is they think girls are smarter than guys?!?! so they
celebrate their debut at age of 18 and!!! Most filipina women seek
rich guys that would support them so they would not have to work!!!
