Thanks for answering my question about my old doctor wanting to charge me to send medical records to the new doctor. Now I would like to know who owns the chart. Can I go to my doctor and ask him for my kids' original charts- thus avoiding the copying fee? (I figure if he wants to keep a copy for himself he can make one). Also, if I ask my old doctor to fax the records to the new doctor, does the ORC still apply. Acutally, I think the HIPPA might prohibit faxing. It just seems absurd to me that I have to pay to get records. Any suggestions you (or other google answerers and comenters) might have would be helpful. |
